Conventional Bord & Pillar is the oldest method of mining where coal is carried in a basket manually. This method involves large manpower in the dynamic zone of working faces which is fraught with risk apart from being low productive.

SCCL is planning to eliminate conventional B&P method during the next five year plan period.

The production from Conventional Bord & Pillar method in SCCL is going down progressively.

It contributed around 3% of the total production during the year 2011-12 whereas it was 31% during the year 2002-03.
