Longwall technology

The modern method of coal mining in underground mines is the Long Wall system, which has been adopted all over the world because of its high output, high productivity, better safety and improved recovery achievable by this method.

When Long Wall technology was finding roots in the country in the early 80s, SCCL availed the opportunity and introduced the first Longwall at GDK 7 in 1983. Subsequently, further LW were introduced in GDK11A, VK7, JK5, GDK9, GDK10, GDK10A & PVK in SCCL.

Presently one Long Wall is working at GDK10A mine & two high capacity Long Wall projects are under construction. On successful implementation of the above projects, the technology will be replicated in future projects where deposits are deep seated.

Long Wall technology has produced 0.29 MT in 2011-12 in SCCL.
