Activities Of General Manager(E&M) UG Mines & CHPS

There are 55 Underground mines and 10 Coal Handling Plants in Singareni Collieries Company Limited. In underground mines there are mechanised mines with 6 Longwalls, 5 Blasting Gallery Equipments, Roadheaders, Load Haul Dumpers and Side Discharge Loaders, in addition to conventional mining equipment like Haulers, Pumps, Drills machines, Drill control panels etc.

The Main Functions of the Department are:

  1. Coordination of all E&M activities for Underground mines both in Hand section & Machine Mining and also Coal Handling Plants.
  2. Scrutiny of spares requirement of all Areas, particularly of Machine Mining units and evaluations.  
  3. Scrutiny of Annual Plan Plant & Machinery requirement, quantity review
  4. Making specifications of new equipment and systems, modification of existing specifications depending on the Statutory Regulations and superseded/improved standards.
  5. Indigenous development of imported spares – thereby reducing the cost and improve the availability of spares/equipment at short term notice.
  6. Planning of power system, distribution and use in Underground mines.
  7. Monitoring the performance of DGMS approved equipment and components. Reporting the performance of equipment to DGMS from time to time.
  8. Introduction of some innovations and modifications systems in operation of equipment. Once introduced in one Area, to introduce the same to all other Areas.
  9. Study of requirement of tubs in all Area Mines, tub manufacturing capacities of all Workshops and monitoring the timely supply of tubs and components..
  10. Monitoring of critical equipment.
  11. Monitoring the performance of Electronic Weigh Bridges, Vibrators, Feeder breakers and Crushers etc. in all CHPs..
  12. Improvements to be made in the loading system to improve the Coal handling system.
  13. Planning of Annual Maintenance, contracts for the Electronic Weigh Bridges and Belt Weighers in all the CHPs.
  14. Planning the requirement of communication systems in Mines and Departments such as Wireless, CDS Exchange and EPABX systems.
  15. To submit field trial performance reports of all Underground equipment to DGMS and follow up with Directorate for approval of equipment in time.
  16. Inspection of Underground mines, CHPs for monitoring performance of the equipment.
  17. Conducting negotiations with the suppliers.
  18. Conducting technical Seminars, Vendor meets etc.
  19. Technical evaluations of enquiry files, giving clarifications regarding technical matters to Corporate Purchase department.
  20. Quantity review of P&M equipment as per Annual Plan and the spares requirement in consultation with G.M.(Stores).
  21. Energy Conservation Measures – Study of Underground pumping, haulage and ventilation reorganisation of all the Underground mines, with a view to save energy cost.
