Civil Engineering Department in SCCL is connected with Civil Works right from mine opening to dispatch of Coal. All developmental activities connected to both OCP’s and UG Mines are taken up.

The Civil Engineering Department of the company forms the most important wing of the Organisation in accomplishing the production targets of the company. The role of the Civil Engineering Department is extensive.

The Major activities are summarized below:

• Approach roads , Power lines grouting, water supply arrangement, Open excavation, Arching, etc for UG mines.
• Infrastructural facilities like Pit- Head Coal handling arrangements, storage Magazines, Filter Beds, Offices, etc.

For Open cast mines

• Major sheds for HEMM.
• Haul Roads, Pit Head coal handling arrangement.
• Unit work shops, storage magazines.
• Offices.

Construction of necessary structures for

• Power Houses HEMM.
• Work Shops.
• ETPs For WorkShops.
• Coal Handling Plants

Maintenance of Company’s Private Railway sidings

The department activity starts right from the mine opening to evacuation of coal produced from   the mine. The major activities connected to mines include:

• Open excavation and Arching of new mines.
• Approach roads, Power-lines grouting & Water-supply arrangements.
• Building infrastructure like explosive storage magazines, filter- beds & offices.
• Pit head coal handling arrangements which include construction of bunkers,gantries,hauler systems,bank-heads,retaining walls, railway track-lines,fan houses etc.
• For Open-cast mines major sheds for HEMM,Haul roads,unit workshops etc.are constructed.
• Coal Handling Plants.

The railway sidings maintained by the company are as below:

The total length of SCCL sidings is 86.666 KMs.

The assisted portion of the siding is 26.373 KMs long. This portion of the siding is maintained by the Railways. SCCL pays Interest and Maintenance charges about `. 106.4 Lakhs to Railways.

The private portion of the siding is 60.393 KMs. This portion of the siding is maintained by the company. About `.1.95 Crores is spent annually towards maintenance of the private siding by the company.
