EMERGING SCENARIO

LONGWALL | OPENCAST

INPIT CRUSHER CONVEYOR | EMERGING SCENARIO

Consequent to the mechanization policy adopted , the emerging technological scenario is a combination of mechanized Opencast mining ,mechanized Longwall mining, conventional as well as mechanized Bord & Pillar mining and some special methods. Mechanized opencasting is capable of yielding quick results . Mechanised Opencast produced 27.959 mT in 2007-08 and is targeted to produce 30.25 mT during 2008-09.

Contribution of conventional Bord and Pillar method to the total production of SCCL is to go down progressively .A production of around 3.0 to 4.0 mT per annum will continue for the next three years.

Intermediate technology i.e. “Mechanized Bord and Pillar” has been introduced on a large scale during the last five years. Currently, 95 SDL (Side-Discharge Loader) and 39 LHD (Load-Haul Dumper) are working. During the next five years around 100 SDL and 40 LHD would be working each year.

During 2007-08, the production from this technology was 5.232 mT and during 2008-09, target is 6.5 mT.

As for mechanized longwall mining, the mining community the world over has accepted it as the most prospective method of mining. Longwall has produced 1.29 mT in 2007-08 and is anticipated to produce 1.0 mT in 2008-09.

As for other methods , special method is to contribute 0.280 Mt. from 1990-91 to 1999-2000. This will come from the Blasting gallery units of GDK 11A, GDK8, GDK10 and No. 21 Incline. This is a method developed with collaboration of CdF, France and is designed to exploit thick seams.
