Brief Note on Plantation & Timber

The Forestry wing of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited is involved in Afforestation of areas as required as per GOI guidelines.

Plantation Activities

To provide a better working environment in mining areas, plantations are being raised every year in vacant spaces, road side avenue plantations and free distribution of plants to the colonies, for planting in house compounds are also taken up along with the rehabilitation of mined areas.

Vacant lands

Block plantation with Eucalyptus clones, Rubber, Cashew, Mango and other misc. species. Medicinal plants are also being raised The Company has given due importance to superior quality of Eucalyptus clonal seedlings.

Avenue plantation: Along the roads, single row or multiple rows depending on the space available, plantations are being taken up.

OB dumps (near OC Mines) : Planting with mixed species

Planting in Colonies, School/College compounds, Office compounds etc. Distribution of seedlings for planting in house holds.

The Company has established Central Nurseries at Kothagudem, Godavari Khani and Bellampalli along with other nurseries at Manuguru and Bhoopalpalli to meet the requirement of seedlings for afforestation of all areas.

The Company encourages the workers to plant fruit bearing plants like Mango, Guava, Sapota and shady trees etc. Fruit bearing and shady trees are purchased and distributed to the workers and employees of the company to plant them in the compounds of their residences apart from Janma Bhoomi, Clean and Green programme.

Through the plantations of clonal origin, ordinary and misc. species, we shall be meeting part of our requirement of timber and ecological balance in the universe. The Company aimed at massive tree planting programme to make the coal belt totally green.
