The SCCL has so far been working mines with inclines entries from the surface, which has limit of extension towards dip. For exploiting coal deposits at depths beyond 400 m, SCCL has taken in advance , and has already completed detailed prospecting for five shaft block areas, viz., RG-I,RG-II,RG-III,MNG-I and Indaram Shaft Blocks. The feasibility report for Ramagundam Shaft Block-I has been submitted to the Government of India and is under appraisal for sanctioning of the same

The time –consuming as well as technically expert job in shaft mining is actual shaft sinking operation. The SCCL has realized this and with the approval of the government of India , has initiated steps in identifying and finalizing the contract of shaft sinking to an expert foreign collaborator.
