SCCL has been operating UG mines for the last 122 years. As on 01.04.2011, there are 36 Underground mines in SCCL.

Beginning with Conventional Bord and Pillar method (Hand section mining), SCCL has introduced semi-mechanisation with SDL & LHD and higher level of mechanization with Long Wall, Continuous Miner & Blasting Gallery.
